PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Ray Rice, the leading rusher in Rutgers football history, has declared for the NFL Draft instead of coming back for his senior year, an athletic department official said Tuesday.
Rice and Rutgers coach Greg Schiano were not made available for comment. The official requested anonymity because the official announcement was expected later Tuesday afternoon.
Rice became the 13th player in NCAA history to gain more than 2,000 yards in one season when he ran for 2,012 this season. He capped the season with a 280-yard, four-touchdown performance in the Scarlet Knights' win over Ball State in the International Bowl last Saturday.
